With so many engineers that have left numerous platforms, they knew that there were changes occurring that drove their work into Frankenstein of social media. Botched up and turned into a monster this version change undergoing numerous adjustments went from making people loose sleep to making people buy sleep online, and pretend to have it at home or day dream. To much blame is misdirected at companies when we don't really know how social media is subject to variations of control in numerous different countries and especially the heavy censorship of China which has gone to a different extreme. The only threat any media presents is the control over what is mainstream or accepted. To control information or disinformation is great task that no AI can truly manage yet or any human or agency can fully implement should there be a larger volume of people.
It is common to scapegoat and blame social media or blame the police for being told to enforce certain laws, or take our frustrations on customer service rep. However what is really the greatest issue is who is going to use this information against us and in what way? What psychological advantage would a social media CEO really have with this. Would Jack Dorsey really be that interested in data reading. I don't think so but at the same time, nothing is out of the equation.
The point is do we need to account for the full function of social media and it's place in our lives. Does it even have a place? And are we going to continue to use it the same?
Since we all helped create this monster little by little we can make changes to this monster because the phantom arm is bound to come off any time soon!
